Classic X Class – A subgroup of the X Class, created in 2006, and unique to the SFMYC, the Classic X Class has somewhat more restrictive rules than the X Class. It’s aim was to preserve the traditional full-keel style of yacht design in contrast to the more modern fin and bulb style keel. Construction must be of wood, not fiberglass. New-built yachts are permitted, so long as they are built to traditional lines. Most of the X-Class boats in the SFMYC qualify to race in the Classic X Class, and no Classic X boats are excluded from the X Class. In all other respects, the description given above for the X Class applies equally to the Classic X. See the Classic X Rating Rules (PDF) for details.
The SFMYC and its members own about 26 Classic X yachts. Of these, the club owns six boats which are available for seasonal lease to members at a very reasonable rate. The Classic X class races on weekends. They have a six race regular season, plus the Skipper's Cup regatta, a combined X vs M event. See the Sail Squadron Calendar for race dates.
